Erin goes back to her roots in piedmont and country blues for this intimate acoustic album, self-produced and recorded in her home studio in June 2020 while in quarantine, with husband/bass player/audio engineer Jim Countryman. The album features 10 tracks, including four self-penned songs, and her own interpretations of traditional tunes and songs by blueswomen from Memphis Minnie to Sippie Wallace, with styles ranging from traditional country blues and slide guitar to folk, Zydeco, and Mississippi John Hurt-style gospel. The stripped-down record features Erin Harpe on acoustic, slide and 12-string guitars and vocals, as well as kazoo and foot percussion, with ukulele bass and backing vocals provided by Jim Countryman.
Our first holiday album – “THE CHRISTMAS SWING” – released in 2018 by VizzTone/Juicy Juju Records! The album features ten songs – including originals and Erin's own arrangements of traditionals and songs by Chuck Berry, Bessie Smith, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly, Bo Carter, and more. Produced by Stefan Grossman’s Guitar Workshop. On this DVD, Erin takes you through songs by early female players of finger-style country blues, including Memphis Minnie, Elvie Thomas, Geeshie Wiley, and Jesse Mae Hemphill.
Memphis Minnie songs include early material in Open G (Spanish tuning) including: Can I Do It For You, Where Is My Good Man At, What's The Matter With The Mill, and When The Levee Breaks. Then Erin teaches two of her songs in Standard tuning: I'm a Bad Luck Woman (E), and Nothing In Rambling (G), and shows you some cool Memphis Minnie licks you can use in your playing!
Other songs and artists include Mattie Delaney, Down The Big Road Blues (Open G) - Elvie Thomas, Motherless Chile (E) - Geeshie Wiley, Pick Poor Robin Clean (C) - and Jessie Mae Hemphill, I'm So Glad (Open D).
