Erin Harpe is certainly one of the most expressive female voices of the authentic acoustic country blues scene, and she performs styles like Delta and Piedmont blues with aplomb and passion. Her guitar technique is refined and brilliant, so she always thrills the audience with her amazing voice and guitar playing, not only when she performs slide guitar but also when she delivers folk, gospel or Zydeco music, although blues is her favorite musical style. Of the ten songs included on the album, four are Erin’s own compositions, and the rest are beautiful versions of old songs by singers from the twenties and thirties, including Sippie Wallace’s “Woman Be Wise”, Lucille Bogan’s “I Hate That Train Called the M&O”, Memphis Minnie’s “What’s The Matter With The Mill” and Geesihe Wiley’s “Pick Poor Robin Clean” and two traditional songs “Rollin’ & Tumblin’” and “When I Lay My Burden Down”. Erin, living in Massachusetts, was recently awarded Blues Artist Of The Year by the New England Music Awards. Following up work with her band Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers, this time around she presents a solo album, where she is backed up by her husband Jim Countryman on ukulele bass and vocals.
